Two Materials Project
I would like to try to combine origami with different materials. So I try to make origami lamp with cork board and rubber plate that I found in hardware shop and like its vibrant color red.
Materials / Tools :
wall hanger hooks
First I started by folding the origami and use it to measure the end pieces on the cork plate. After cutting both the end piece out, I attached both sides of the origami with the cork piece with the pin nails to close the origami’s shape.
Then I moved on to the backing part of the lamp by measure and cut the circle hole in both rubber and cork plate and glue it together.
Since I like both of the cork’s texture and the rubber’s color so I decided to use both of the materials for backing part of the lamp. I try to play with the magnet first to see if it able to set the paper lamp in place and turns out it can hold the paper origami on the backing plate just fine. Therefore, I started to put the hole in the cork’s part of the the origami lamp.
Then I put the hanger hooks on the corner of the hanging part
Now assemble the origami and the backing together with the magnet
My initial idea of this project is actually to make an origami vase. I already finished the project day before and hang it on the wall in my room. Though because I attached the vase with the the zip tide to the cork plate which is pretty crumble, so the cork was broken before I got a chance to take any picture of it and I have to come up with the lamp idea instead. Anyway, I still like the new product and also learn a lot about how to combine the material with its own constrains and structure.
